This piece features a dancing Tsuru or Red-Crowned Crane, with a 24 ct Gold Leaf pattern in the background. It is from my Japanese Washi Paper Collection, made by collaging brightly coloured Japanese paper in the background, sealing it, and painting over it in oils. It was inspired by my upbringing in Japan and my love for Japanese culture and aesthetics. A Tsuru symbolises health, wellbeing and longevity. Legend states that a Tsuru can live up to a thousand years.
• Oils, acrylics, spray paint, 24ct gold leaf and Japanese Washi Paper on cradled wooden circular panel.
• 60 cm diameter.
